MATERIALS

Carbon Steel: Low cost, high strength and readily formed standard alloy is 1006 aluminum killed. Can be used as pivot or wear part without danger of seizing. Can be treated with a wide variety of chemical coatings.

Brass and Copper Alloys: Generally used for fastening of copper alloys assemblies, but also when appearance, good electrical properties, and corrosion resistance are important.

Aluminum: Readily formed. Bright appearance. Resists oxidation in corrosive atmosphere. Used in aluminum and steel assemblies.

High Alloy and Stainless Steel: Used primarily where high strength and /or good wear characteristics are required, and in the case of stainless steel, where good corrosion resistance is necessary. Stainless steel rivets are also used on occasion instead of plated fasteners.

Special Materials: Phosphorous bronze, Monel and other materials are often used for special applications. Please contact Tri-State for application information and recommendations.

FINISHES

Our finishes are done in compliance with RoHs standards effective July 1, 2006.

Zinc Plated: Used for most metals. Provides good protection in corrosive atmosphere, is attractive, and is useful for matching fastener with base metal.

Nickel Plate: Excellent protection for indoors use; satisfactory for outdoors applications. Useful for matching appearance for hardware, appliances and kitchen utensils or as a base plate that later is over coated after setting in the assembly. Tends to peel or flake in some instances.

Brass and Copper Plate: Almost always used as a decorative finish for indoor use- usually over steel.

Other Electroplates: Widely used for decorative reasons: black or white finishes are most popular.

Painted Rivets: We can supply painted heads, only, in various colors matched to your specifications with a sample. Black oxide is also available, which is widely used by bindery manufacturers.
